Upholstery

Furniture may become a renewable investment with the partnership of Stephen McCune Upholstery. Beginning with a solid foundation, adding quality products to enhance that foundation, and concluding with fabric covering of the durable beauty has been a long tradition at Stephen McCune.

Why reupholster?

The main objective in reupholstering a piece of furniture is to customize the piece to match a decorating theme — in other words, you get exactly what you want rather than settling for a common piece from a mass marketer. Furthermore, to reupholster offers the chance to preserve a heirloom or quality piece.

The considerations are:

  1. Fabrics and Leathers: Select the fabric from thousands of colors, types, textures, and manufacturers. Select leathers from multiple options or in-showroom hair on hides.
  2. Style: Choices such as skirted or not, knife edged or boxed, welt or no welt are part of the reupholster process. In addition, multiple fabric patterns/colors, leather on a piece, and designer rope trims and fringes are available.
  3. Seating options: Choices such a loose cushion, tight seat, attached pillow, tufted back, or channel back are available. Further choice include the type of backs (Dacron, foam, dacron/down blends), seat cushion firmness, and wraps such as quilted 808 Dacron or down wrap.

Lasting and Quality Goods

The fabric and leathers sold by Stephen McCune Upholstery are high-quality, first-run good from reputable companies. We do not sell closeouts or discontinued fabrics that are special purchase. We take pride in our quality fabric choices that hold up to normal wear and tear. Our prices are fair and reasonable for quality custom goods.

Many manufacturers and competitors cut product quality and costs in areas that are not seen, as in under the fabric. We use premium Dacron, cottons, and foam for padding and cushions. We wrap all cushions with 808 quilted Dacron. Backs get 91H quilted Dacron or Plush hand made blended down wraps. We make sure the places where certain backs, arms, and rails need extra cotton and/or foam the coverage is adequate. We exclusively use Q and HR foams. All our foams are flame and fire retardant.

Foam Density is an important choice in making a lasting, comfortable piece of furniture. Our suggestions, which we use exclusively are (range from least to most resilient):

  • Q16    Very soft density
  • Q26    Very nice and plush for relaxed lounging
  • Q33    Most used, best all-around seat cushion foam, medium
  • Q50/Q60    Resilient and firm for high wear and firm seat applications. Similar in quality, but firmer to the touch than the Q series, we use HR foams as follows (range from least to most resilient):
  • HR18    Similar to very soft, but great for seat back cushions
  • HR 25   Nice for firmer backs and softer seats
  • HR 35   Similar to the Q33 but firmer
  • HR45   Great for small seat applications, around 2 inches
